Torquay is the official start of the Great Ocean Road. It is well known for Bells Beach and the birthplace of iconic surf brands, the region is the surfing capital of Australia. The community in Torquay is known for being friendly and diverse. Recent years have seen increased development of the area. With the 'old town' between the highway and the beach almost fully developed, housing spread to Jan Juc, west of Spring Creek, and new estates opened to the north of the town.
