Robinson River is located in the South West Gulf and is 144 km south-east of Borroloola and 798 km from Katherine. Historically and currently is a working cattle station. In 1980 the local Garawa people, who largely resided in Borroloola and aided by the Aboriginal Development Committee, began working on a land claim on the Robinson River region. In 1992 the Land Claim was successful and the Garawa people were handed back the Robinson River Station and surrounding region.
